When you sign up to KODAKOne you are introduced to your account manager who will give you image upload details, set you up with a client portal and get to know you and your work as a photographer in detail. Your account manager is with you each step of the way.
We understand that this isn’t your full-time job, so during your onboarding stage, you can specify how much time you can commit to your cases.
With FTP upload or a file-sharing system that suits you, this process is seamless. You can upload as many photos as you like quickly and efficiently.
You may upload whatever content you feel needs to be tracked, as long as you are the copyright holder or have the right to pursue copyright claims on behalf of the copyright holder.
This step happens behind the scenes – our crawlers search the web far and wide for all instances of your images.
Once your images have produced “Hits” our team will go through them for you and will handpick all commercial uses of your images and send them to your Client Portal for you to classify. These are “Pre-Cases.”
You know your work better than anyone else so before we contact image users, we need you to go through and Classify each Pre-Case and check whether a usage holds a license or not.
Once you’ve classified your Pre-Cases, all uses that don’t hold a license are sent back to our Post-Licensing team to document it in detail and contact the unlicensed image user.
The post-licensing can happen in two phases. Most cases are resolved in the first phase where we contact the image users with a friendly approach. We send them an email that offers them the opportunity to adequately post-license their usage without additional legal cost. We also advise them of our next steps if the user continues to go unlicensed.
The case moves to the second phase if the unlicensed image user does not adequately post-license your image. The case is then referred to our legal partner. At this stage, there may be additional damages incurred towards them.
Just like your images, each case is completely unique. The duration of each case can be one day to up to several months depending on certain factors of the case.
On average a case, in phase one is resolved within one month, but a case in phase two will take a little longer. In any case, you can easily follow the status of your cases on your client portal.
Every quarter you receive your royalty statement and in the following month, payment is transferred to your preferred account.
We want to keep on protecting your image rights and make sure you get rewarded for your creativity so we have made it very easy for you to upload more images on your client portal and keep earning money!
Photos that have already been licensed are more likely to be used without a license.
Photos with a watermark bring stronger cases against unlicensed image users.
Photos registered at the US Copyright Office bring even stronger cases against unlicensed image users.
